Minutes 2022 09 20
Note; this meeting followed a tour of the museum requested by Leann Kniffen for Northpoint and
Good Samaritan Home residents. They all very much enjoyed the tour.
President Janet Wagner called the Bon Homme Heritage Association board meeting to order at
3:00 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Goldie’s Annex. Eight members attended; Janet
Wagner, Ron Wagner, Joanne Balvin, Bill Balvin, Florence Sutera, Jacques Soukup, Edwards
Winters, Bob Foley.
Sec/Tres Reports:
Prior minutes were read and approved unanimously. No bills are
outstanding. Treasurer report approved unanimously.
Old Business:
Janet reported a sign identifying the annex building as “Goldie’s Annex” was installed on the
exterior wall near the entrance.
Material donated by the Winkler family is stored at the library 'Bouska-Schuurmans Room’ and
needs to be thoroughly examined by the Accessions Committee. Joanne suggested this to be a
winter activity.
Ron reported Dan Varilek hopes to complete shingle repairs on the Memorial Church this fall.
Ron reported the Texaco sign remains at GT Autobody for painting.
Janet reported Vince Efta and Rich Sutera hope to complete steeple repairs this fall.
Janet reported the classes of 1970 and 1971 very much enjoyed touring the museum as part of
their joint class reunion.
Janet led discussion about new board members and new officers. Joanne reported Linda
Pesek, who joined the board, is working with her on the Accessions Committee. Linda could not
attend today due to commitments at the city finance office. Bob commented on the importance
of the Accessions Committee; they use procedures installed by Maxine Schuurmans-Kinsley
when the Memorial Church Museum formed in 1989. Work includes archiving current items and
auditing collection records. Joanne noted the Accession Committee is to contain at least three
members, so we’re at least one short. Bob reported a recent donation of records from the Quinn
School; Florence described some school records she has that may be of interest to the
museum. Bob added that more reference books need to be labeled; perhaps Sue gough would
again help with this task.
Several nominations were proposed for officers, but all nominees declined. Janet and Bob
agreed to continue in their roles. Bob stated that those board members who choose not to serve
in an office still have a responsibility to recruit new board members who may be inclined to
serve, or to participate in the Accession Committee.
New Business: Bob reported on a potential Rotary Foundation grant to help fund relocation of the diesel engine/generator from the old light plant site to museum grounds. Members unanimously directed Bob to partner with Rotary regarding the grant. The deadline is Sep 30. Ron will speak with Jim Matney about displaying the Hisek Mail Wagon in the old service station building at 1800 Main St. Janet led discussion about holiday decorations. Ron reported on the upcoming “Tyndall Christmas Spirit Contest” where cash prizes will be awarded for the best residential decorations. Since this contest is aimed at community promotion, board members decided to decorate museum grounds to support this effort, and allocated $500 to purchase holiday decorations. Ron, Jacques and Edward agreed to plan and acquire decorations, and to install them just after Thanksgiving. Janet, without objection, adjourned at 4:09 pm. The next meeting will be called when needed. Bob Foley, Secretary-Treasurer
